The first proper home I owned was Victorian - you know the style - two rooms and then a kitchen in an offset, all surrounded by wall at the back.  I loved that house and made a beautiful garden there.  An unexpected delight was that the kitchen was bathed in light, unlike my neighbour whose house faced the in the opposite direction.  That house made me value the sunlight that comes into a home.
